At the heart of this creation lies the Kraken Filling System, a revolutionary filling mechanism inspired by mechanical heart valves. Designed by Ben Walsh, this system is unlike anything else in the pen industry. While researching shut-off valves for retractable pens, Ben looked to medical devices for inspiration. He discovered a beautifully simple yet highly effective sealing solution. That concept evolved into the Kraken Filling System — a mechanism more comparable to a mechanical heart valve than a traditional vacuum filling system.
What makes the Kraken Filling System unique:
- Efficient design offering a remarkable 7ml ink capacity when fully filled
- Use of a specialised quad ring — specifically designed for sealing, with a shape that retains lubricant between contact points for constant lubrication and improved sealing
- Due to precision machining, the system offers high efficiency in filling, resulting in a large ink volume even with a single plunge
The writing point of the Monster is a Size 8 steel nib, paired with an ebonite feed. It is available in four nib sizes: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, and Broad. The Teal and Silver versions come with a silver-coloured nib, while the Black version is fitted with a black-coloured nib. The section of the pen can be unscrewed, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance of the filling system.
Monster Teal, Silver, and Black are part of an initial numbered batch of 1000 pieces. Each pen is delivered in a zippered carrying case.
